The Minister was introduced to the school’s many talented athletes who expressed their enthusiasm for PE and school sport. When asked if they were looking forward to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games, students enthusiastically shared their belief in the vision of the games for an inclusive society. The Minister took part in a Question and Answer session with the students and answered a range of questions, outlining his commitment to equal opportunities and increasing the range of sports available to young people.
Year 8 girls proved to be very impressive when they demonstrated their football skills to the Minister in an inter-house competition. The Minister then presented the Player of the Match certificates to each team.

Year 10 students ably demonstrated their leadership skills through delivering an athletics festival for Year 4 students from Queen Edith’s Primary School which is one of Netherhall’s Sports College partner primary schools. The Queen Edith pupils took part in five athletics events and were scored in their ability to run, jump, throw, balance and bounce. The festival was led by SSCo’s from secondary schools within the Cambridge School Sports Partnership. Annie Graham, a Year 10 student at Netherhall and Young Ambassador for the Cambridge School Sports Partnership commented ‘It was great to meet the Minister for Sport. We were able to demonstrate some of the skills we have been developing in our PE and leadership lessons. It was good to put these skills into practice with Year 4 students’.
