Athletics Taster with Cambridge and Coleridge

On Friday 23 April the Parkside Federation Family of Schools held an athletics taster in conjunction with Cambridge and Coleridge Athletics Club (C and C).  The aim of the session was to encourage the pupils attending to make a step
towards joining the club.

Forty Pupils from Year 5, 6, and 7 got involved in four different activities in order to give them an idea of what goes on at the club.  Pupils had a go at sprinting and sprint starting, throwing javelin and discus, long jumping and endurance running.

Helping the children out were James (our school sports athletics coach), James, Caroline and Bryn, all qulaified athletics coaches from C and C.  The coaches were supported by  seven young athletes from the Parkside Federation.

Cambridge and Coleridge run sessions for young athletes at the track in Wilberforce Road, and at a number of venues in and around Cambridge.  Sessions for pupils in Year 6 upwards run at the track on Monday evenings, for pupils up to year 6 sessions are currently running at the track on Wednesdays.  For further information go to the C and C website at www.cambridgeandcoleridge.org.uk
