Teaching Games at KS1

Course Aims: * to develop knowledge and understanding for teaching a range of games
* to provide a range of practical activities, ideas and methods of organising classes of children in games
* to explore resources that can assist with the delivery of KS1 games
The course is suitable for KS1 teachers, NQTs, RQTs.
This practical course will enable participants to develop their knowledge of basic game playing skills, such as throwing, catching, rolling, striking, kicking and travelling with. A range of practical games activities will be used and adapted to demonstrate the progression in skills required for KS1. Activities to support planning and assessment will be explored.
Delegates will need to wear suitable clothing and footwear to participate in practical activity.

Learning in the Outdoors

Course Aims: * to recognise the benefits of working with young children outdoors
* to explore a range of activities to confidently lead learning in the outdoors
* to improve understanding of risk assessment in an outdoor learning environment
* to plan for outdoor activiity across the whole curriculum, linking curriculum areas
The course is aimed at KS1 staff.
Delegates will learn about meaningful learning experiences beyond the classroom and the impact on childrens personal development. Delegates will experience a range of practical activities that can challenge and enrich the experience for children such as outdoor trails, problem solving, use of rivers and ponds, artwork, poetry and stories whilst considering how to safely manage these activities.

Matalan TOP Sport
Monday 16th April 2012
Venue: Cherry Hinton Junior School
Provider: Cambs SSP
Course Aims: In partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, Matalan TOP Sport (part of Matalan Sporting Promise) supports PE and sport in primary schools. This workshop will help you identify with the key features and characteristics of the Matalan TOP Sport Programme and resources and show you how to adapt to include and develop all young people. Each delegate will receive a resource pack (one set per primary school).

Outdoor Adventurous Activities

Venue: Grafham Water Centre, PE28 0BX
Provider: CAS
Course Aims: * to develop a range of ideas and strategies for the effective delivery of OAA
* to develop an understanding of simple teamwork activities, orientation and map skills activities and physical challenges on the school site
* to consider how to manage groups safely and effectively when teaching OAA in the school grounds
* to explore how OAA can contribute to PSHE and SEAL
This course is aimed at KS2 staff and NQTs.
Delegates will take part in practical activities such as; orientation activities using maps and diagrams; following trails; trust and communication activities; physical challenges and working in teams. Also how to set up an efficient carousel of activities that operate safely and the use of appropriate equipment. Delegates will consider how the skills of listening, respect, leadership, responsibility etc can contribute to the personal development of pupils.
Participants need to wear suitable clothing and footwear. There is an opportunity to explore Grafham Water Centre facilities.
