Administrators - Lisa Smith: 'Get Active, Get Moving' Coordinator
Lisa trained as a Sport Scientist at Nottingham Trent University and then completed a Masters in Exercise Science.
She was responsible for setting up the Cambridge City Council Exercise Referral Programme Start-Up which she ran for nearly 4 years. Following this Lisa worked at the MRC Human Nutrition Unit running the Volunteer Suite.
Lisa has come back to work after having 2 children and now runs the 'Get Active, Get Moving' project. Get Active, Get Moving is a project which runs partnership wide. The main aim of the project is to "Develop mobility and promote the value of regular exercise in combating obesity in Under 11's".
The project is split into 3 main areas:
- Pedometer Challenges which involve all the schools in the partnership. Every half term the children in School Year 4 across a family of primary schools takes part in a two-week pedometer challenge.
- Activ8 - a lunchtime or after school club set up specifically for inactive children. Activ8 lasts for one term and will be set up in any school that feels they have children who would benefit from such a club.
- MEND (mind, exercise, nutrition & do-it) is the third phase of the Get Active, Get Moving project and this is specifically for overweight and obese children aged 7 - 13 years.This is an intensive 10 week programme for both children and their carer and aims to educate the importance of healthy eating and the benefits of regular physical activity. The next MEND programme is due to run in the north of the City after Easter.
